The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing audiences to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.

In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a glimpse into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
